MISSION The mission of Heirs to a Fighting Tradition is to strengthen and broaden the base of North Carolina social justice organizers. We plan to build on our skills, passion and capacity to work collectively for fundamental social transformation. To accomplish this mission, we collect, record, archive and share the heirs stories in peer learning and community building events. We engage communities in educational processes of socio-political analysis, authentic dialogue and creative use of story aimed at inspiring community action. We develop and support grassroots community organizers, particularly young people, through anti-oppression trainings and leadership development workshops. |
"Story told to inform, inspire, activate is an act of citizenship." -Christina Baldwin, author of Storycatcher |

VISION
We share a vision of a world with full human liberation and freedom from oppression.
VALUES
We believe in the causes of social justice: equality and dignity for everyone no matter their race, class, sexual orientation, gender, spiritual practice or secular worldview, age, or physical abilities.
We affirm the inherent ability all people to learn, identify their problems and their strengths, and to work collectively to make change. We embrace a long-term, generational approach to bringing about social justice that is rooted in cooperative education, dialogue, analysis, reflection, organizing and action. We consider ourselves learners and partners with others on this journey to real social transformation.
